Pole to Pole Cruises: Luxury Arctic-to-Antarctic Voyages

From Polar Bears to Penguins: First Pole-to-Pole Luxury Cruises

There is one voyage that lets you stand among polar bears and penguins in the same season. You might be visiting Inuit communities in the Canadian Arctic before watching humpback whales breach off the coast of Antarctica, all while only unpacking once. As luxury travelers clamor for ever more adventurous journeys, expedition lines are testing the waters with pole-to-pole cruises, offering Arctic-to-Antarctic itineraries unlike anything else at sea.

Only two cruise lines currently offer these epic, multi-month Arctic-to-Antarctic voyages. Expedition specialist Julie Prusak says that expedition ships typically visit the Arctic in June through September, then cruise south for the Antarctic season from November through March. “For travelers who want it all, pole-to-pole sailings are unmatched: you’ll watch ecosystems shift before your eyes, from Arctic tundra to Caribbean warmth to Antarctic icefields,” adds Prusak.

Pole-to-pole cruises vary in ports, lengths, and costs. Amenities also fluctuate; voyages may include airfare, pre-cruise hotel stays, transfers, some or most shore excursions and activities, Wi-Fi, and even submarine dives. These epic journeys last 81 to 94 days, with entry pricing from $72,995 to $94,499 — making them one of the most ambitious adventures at sea.

Special offers, including airfare upgrades and shipboard credit, are only available for bookings made before September 30, 2025.

Here, the cruise lines offering Arctic-to-Antarctic voyages in 2027 and 2028. Consider booking pole-to-pole cruises far ahead. With Viking’s 2025 itinerary already sold out and 2026 on waitlist, waiting means missing out. More expedition lines are expected to expand into this market — but the earliest openings are vanishing fast.

Seabourn’s Grand Expedition: Pole-to-Pole Luxury Cruise 2027

Seabourn, recently voted Best Ultra-Luxury Cruise Line and Best Small-Ship Cruise Line by Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, debuts its first pole-to-pole cruise in 2027.

The 94-day Grand Expedition: Pole to Pole sailing August 17 to November 19, 2027, visits 14 countries. The luxury line sails 264-passenger Seabourn Venture for this journey. The all-suite expedition ship elevates every moment: infinity pool, spa, eight dining experiences (plus 24-hour suite service), two submarines, double sea kayaks, 24 zodiacs, and 23 expert expedition team members.

This cruise begins with a Reykjavik overnight and a charter flight to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, first exploring the vast Arctic wilderness and wildlife before visiting balmy Caribbean islands like Barbados, and Trinidad. After crossing the Equator, Seabourn Venture explores Brazil, stopping in Salvador da Bahia and bustling Rio de Janeiro. The expedition continues in Montevideo, the Falkland Islands, subantarctic South Georgia Islands, and Antarctica, concluding in Ushuaia, Argentina.

Viking Arctic to Antarctic Explorer 2027–2028

Viking Octantis on pole to pole cruises in Antarctica

Passengers boarding 378-passenger Viking Octantis in Nuuk, Greenland on September 9, 2027 will sail the 81-day Arctic to Antarctic Explorer journey visiting 10 countries. This award-winning expedition ship reflects the Scandinavian design Viking is famous for — and as Condé Nast Traveler’s #1-rated river, ocean, and expedition line for two years running, Viking brings unmatched trust to the journey.

This expedition will traverse the Canadian High Arctic and Great Lakes before viewing fall foliage of Halifax, Quebec City, and Toronto. Cruising the St. Lawrence River and New York is next. Then on to warmer waters in the Bahamas, Jamaica and a Panama Canal transit. The Viking Octantis then sails south to Santiago, past the Chilean fjords and glaciers, and finally, arrives in Antarctica. The expedition concludes in Ushuaia, Argentina.

Amenities include business class airfare, transfers, up to $4,000 per couple shipboard credit, and an included excursion in each port. Zodiac tours, special operation boats and kayaks, a keepsake expedition jacket, complimentary visa service, and a beverage package are also included. Book by September 30, 2025, to secure these inclusions and avoid missing the limited special offers.

Viking has also opened bookings for its Viking Octantis 81-day, 10 country expedition from Nuuk, Greenland to Ushuaia, Argentina (September 15, 2028 to December 4, 2028) featuring the same itinerary and amenities.
