Year-round warm weather, stunning beaches, luxurious resorts, and world-class golf courses are just some of the reasons why Los Cabos should be on every traveler’s bucket list. Located at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, Los Cabos is a dream destination. With a little something for everyone, I’ve rounded up the top five reasons why you should consider Los Cabos for your next vacation.
Part of the fun of traveling to Mexico is experiencing the culture. The country is known for its vibrant culture, amazing food, and history. Los Cabos combines the best of all three to offer visitors a truly authentic experience. Walk the ancient cobblestone streets and marvel at the historic buildings while the scent of delicious Mexican food draws you into a local restaurant. Then, explore the local culture when you visit the art district and discover the local artisans’ talents while also picking up some fun souvenirs like hand-painted pottery or jewelry to take home.
Los Cabos’ position as the southernmost point of the Baja California Peninsula means it is home to some of the country’s most stunning beaches. On one side, you have the gentle blue waters of the Gulf of California that are perfect for swimming and paddleboarding, while on the other, you have the deep indigo waters of the Pacific, which are great for fishing. Thanks to the miles of coastline, you’ll find the beaches to rarely ever be crowded!
The Cabo San Lucas Marine Park is well known for its dramatic rock formations and dive sites. You can see anything from sea turtles, surgeonfish, parrotfish, angelfish to Moorish idols, rays, and more on any given day. The calm gulf waters around Los Cabos make it an ideal spot for divers to explore. If you’ve never been scuba diving before and want to learn, this is the perfect destination! In the marina, dozens of dive schools will get you set up and teach you everything you need. You can take group lessons or private lessons that will have you diving before you know it!
For those who prefer staying above the surface, you can still experience marine wildlife during the annual gray whale migration. Gray whales travel the longest known mammal migration from the cold Arctic seas to Mexico’s warm lagoons to give birth, socialize, and mate. You can expect to see gray whales off the coast of the Baja peninsula from late December through April. Throughout the year, over 20 species of whales can be seen in Baja. If you want to go whale watching, make sure to hire a licensed tour operator for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
World-renowned courses with panoramic views from every hole make Los Cabos a golfer’s paradise. Four of its 18 courses were ranked among the World’s 100 Best Courses by Golf Digest in 2018. Those courses are Querencia, Quivira, The Dunes at Diamante, and the Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol.
If your idea of a vacation is an itinerary packed with activities, Los Cabos is for you. While the area is filled with luxurious resorts designed for relaxation, you’ll quickly see that there’s plenty more to do. You can leave to go on a whale-watching trip or deep-sea fishing in the Pacific from the marina. Then, just behind the beach, head into the Baja desert and go hiking or rent ATVs for an action-packed day! Or immerse yourself in the cuisine with a cooking class. For the unusual outing, book a camel trek.
If you’ve never considered a trip to Los Cabos, it’s time to start thinking about one. This Mexican paradise is the ideal location for every type of traveler. If you’ve not been here before, or even if you have, there are many reasons to love Los Cabos.
